Human being is forced to search for an infinite source of energy because of the depleting nature of the conventional energy sources. The most primitive source of energy- Solar Energy -might solve this energy crisis of the world. There are two major ways of conversion of solar energy i.e. thermal conversion and photovoltaic
conversion. Solar cells convert sunlight directly to electricity .Output of solar cell is directly proportional to the solar radiation falling on its surface. So, to optimize the power from the solar radiation,it is necessary to track the photovoltaic array in such a way that the solar radiation would always be normal to its surface. It is achieved by a 2-axis tracking method. Tracking of solar panels is the latest in technology,to maximize the energy absorption and return on investment. To get more power, addition of solar panel is advisable. Beyond a certain power level two axis tracking is more cost effective than simple addition of the solar panels at a fixed tilt angle (latitude of the place). This paper suggests how to find out the break even power (BEP) above which two axis
tracking should be used for different place of India. Generally BEP is calculated based on the cost of two axis tracking and the solar radiation in different places.
